More calories per mouthful from eating out than eating in
Eating and drinking out of home provides more calories per mouthful than being at home because of the high sugar content of food and drink out of home, according to new research into rising obesity levels and diet-related health problems by foodservice consultancy Horizons.
With cholesterol targeted as a prime source of heart-related illness, eggs eaten out of home – from the breakfast fry-up to the seemingly healthy egg and cress lunchtime sandwich - are responsible for 22% of all the cholesterol digested from out of home eating, although a nutrition-packed food.
Yet food eaten out of home is not the major source of calorie intake, but carbonated, sugar-laden soft drinks.
