Chinese on top

Chinese is the fastest-growing style of restaurant in the UK, according to research just published by Horizons. Total sales figures for 2005 just completed show an 8% surge of £102 million between 2001 and 2005 to reach £1.4 billion.

Yet Italian restaurants are still out in front when it comes to total annual revenue at £1.5 billion in 2005, a 7% rise in revenue between 2001 and 2005.

One of the few restaurant sectors showing a revenue decline during the same four-year period were Indian restaurants, with a 10% revenue drop between 2001 and 2005 to £600 million last year.
